The Importance of Preventive Care

Combined with regular vaccinations, parasite prevention, and proper nutrition, these routine examinations include regular physical checkups to give your pet the best chance at excellent lifelong health.

With so many different brands and types of pet food available, knowing what to feed your pet can be quite confusing. Also, many pets are either above or below their ideal body weight. A wellness examination will help our vets assess your pet’s body condition and help you select the appropriate diet for their needs.

When you bring your dog or cat in for a routine examination, we can either prevent health problems from occurring or catch them early, when they are most curable.

What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical Exam

Our Four Corners Veterinary Hospital vetereinarians will give your dog or cat a thorough physical checkup in order to get a complete picture of his or her overall health. Routine wellness exams at our animal clinic include the following elements:

General Condition

Your pet's general demeanor and physical condition can provide clues to their overall health. How they stand and walk, their level of alertness, and whether they are a healthy weight for their size are all important indicators of overall health.

Face & Head

Your pet's eyes, ears, and nose will be examined for abnormalities or discharge. We will also check the mouth for symptoms of oral health problems such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease.

Coat & Skin

During your pet's examination, we will look for symptoms of issues such as excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, pimples, dandruff, or abnormal hair loss or shedding.

Internal Health

The heart rate and rhythm, pulse, and blood pressure of your pet are all critical to his or her heart health. We'll run some tests to make sure they're all OK. After that, the lungs will be checked for signs of irregular breathing.

Lymph nodes will be examined for pain or swelling, and the abdomen will be examined to verify that the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver, and stomach are all normal and that your pet is not in pain.

Review of Findings

At the end of your pet's routine wellness exam, your vet will take the time to discuss any concerns they may have about your pet's overall health and talk to you about your dog or cat's nutritional requirements.

Checkups for Puppies & Kittens

Puppies and kittens need proper medical attention in their first few weeks of life to get off to a healthy start.

We'll offer your new best buddy a thorough health inspection, as well as the necessary vaccinations and deworming medicines. We will also look for intestinal parasites

Please never hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about caring for your new pet, both at your appointments or following your visits.

Our veterinarians are here to provide you with all the advice and guidance you need to help you care for your pet.

Once your puppy or kitten's checkup is complete, you'll return periodically for his or her required booster shots

Seniors

Senior pets are enjoying longer lives than ever before, thanks to recent advancements in veterinary medical knowledge and care, as well as innovative medicines and improved diets.

While this is terrific news for pets and their owners, it means that special attention needs to be given to your pet's routine healthcare as they age. As your pet surpasses middle age, regular examinations become increasingly crucial to ensure their continuing health and longevity.

We will pay extra attention to your senior pet's potential geriatric problems, such as arthritis or impaired eyesight, in addition to the normal health treatments we do on all adult pets.

Additional laboratory tests may be recommended for aging pets to provide more detailed information about your senior pet's overall health and wellbeing.

Vaccinations & Prevention

During your pet's veterinary checkup, we will also let you know if your animal is due for any routine vaccinations or preventive care measures.
